General characteristics of the species
Bone fish. Wide and slightly round body. Features a submandibular barbel. Reddish in color and with brownish back scales. The flanks have a longitudinal reddish band near the eyes and three yellow bands underneath. The first dorsal fin has two transverse yellow bands and a black spot at its upper end. It can reach a total length of up to about 40 cm.
