General characteristics of the species
Bone fish. Large mouth, full lips, upper jaw wider than the lower one. The eyes are big. The dorsal, caudal and anal fins are joined to form a single fin. No pelvic fins. Dark gray in color, almost black on the back, clearing on the flanks. The belly is white. Depending on the size of this species, it is classified as conger or sapphire, depending on whether it is larger or smaller specimens, respectively.
