Habitat: the Yellowfin tuna occurs mostly offshore and occasionally around seamounts. This is a highly migratory species occurring in the Azores mostly between April and October.
Principal fishing methods: pole-and-line and surface longline.
Biology: the maximum reported size for this species is 210 cm (170 kg) and has a maximum reported age of 8 years.
Conservation status: although not red listed by the IUCN for the North Atlantic, there is concern as to the status of this species. Locally caught yellowfin tuna have been allocated a minimum commercial size of 3.2 kg.
